Activated Charcoal

Activated charcoal is a fine, odorless, black powder. Superheating natural sources of carbon, such as wood, produces activated charcoal.Charcoal can help to absorb excess oil, dirt, product buildup and harmful bacteria from your skin, all of which are leading causes of common breakouts. Charcoal also works as an anti-inflammatory, absorbing substances that inflame the skin so it can prevent redness and leave you with cleaner, clearer skin. I also use activated charcoal as a natural colorant. It gives wonderful shades of black and grays.

Clay is used in soap making for many reasons. I use clays as natural colorants for my soaps. It can gently exfoliate the skin and making it brighter and clearer. Clay can help the skin receive more oxygen, which can lead to better blood flow and healthier skin. It can also help remove excess oil, dirt, and toxins from pores. Clay can also help with pH balance, contain valuable minerals, and can add slip for shaving.

Kaolin clay is a naturally occurring clay mineral. It's also known as kaolinite or china clay. Kaolin is formed over millions of years when granite rocks decompose hydrothermally. The process involves water wearing away rocky cliff faces, causing hydrous minerals to flow into pools and form clay deposits. Kaolin forms best in hot and wet conditions, which is why similar climates often have visible white patches from space.

Brazilian clays are made from 100% natural active clay minerals. They are formed in a rich environment of sedimentary basins and ancient mountainous ranges, which is said to give them the highest mineral potential in the world.

Sea Salt

When incorporated into bar soap, the salt granules remove impurities and unclog pores, preventing blemishes and promoting a more transparent and healthier complexion. One of the critical benefits of Sea Salt is its ability to attract and retain moisture.

Fragrance Oils

I only use fragrance oils that are phthalate and paraben free. Phthalates are ingredients often used in fragrance to make the scent last longer.

Phthalates are used in a variety of cosmetics and personal care products. Phthalates are chemical compounds developed in the last century that are used to make plastics more durable.

Parabens are a group of chemicals that are often used as preservatives in cosmetics, foods, and pharmaceuticals. They are esters of parahydroxybenzoic acid, or parahydroxybenzoates, and are used to prevent the growth of mold, bacteria, and yeasts. Parabens can be found in many personal care products.

The fragrance oils that I use come from a trusted source that prides themselves are ensuring their oils are free of these harsh chemicals.

Indigo Powder

Indigo powder is a natural dye made from the leaves of the Indigofera tinctoria plant. Natural Indigo also has antibacterial benefits.

It produces a range of beautiful blue shades in the soap.

Coconut Milk Powder

Its high fat content helps to moisturize and hydrate the skin, while its anti-inflammatory properties work to calm irritation and reduce redness. Additionally, coconut milk is rich in vitamins C and E, which act as antioxidants, protecting the skin from oxidative stress and promoting healing

Mica Powder

Mica is minerals formed when rocks are exposed to extreme heat and pressure. There are more than 20 different kinds because of all the ways they're created in nature.

Mica minerals are usually a shiny, flaky substance that can be peeled off into thin layers. They're extremely fine and they come in a variety of naturally-occuring colors. They create more vibrant colors, vs the clays.

If I use mica powder, I only use ones that are mined in safe conditions and DO NOT use child labor.

Dried Flowers and Botanicals

I like to top my soaps with dried flowers or botanicals to give it a pretty finishing touch. I also like to use them for their skin benefits in the soap bars. Calendula is one of my favorites to grind up and add to soap. It is a natural emollient that can help lock in moisture and restore the skin's natural moisture balance.

Sodium Lactate is a liquid salt derived from the fermentation of sugars found in corn and beets.

Essential oils are natural plant extracts that can be used in soap to create beautiful scents, nourish the skin, and provide an aromatherapeutic experience.

Using essential oils in soap bars takes away the need for synthetic scents and other toxic ingredients that irritate the skin. Essential oils are soft, gentle and most importantly, natural

Colloidal Oats

Colloidal oas is a fine powder made from grinding oatmeal.

Colloidal oatmeal binds to your skin and locks in moisture, giving your skin a chance to rehydrate. It also softens your skin and soothes itching. Its anti-inflammatory properties make it great for people who have dry skin, because it helps balance your skin's natural pH levels

Honey

Honey contains antioxidants that fight free radicals, which can cause premature aging. Honey can also help protect the skin from environmental damage and decrease signs of aging.

It is a natural humectant that draws moisture from the air and binds it to the skin, keeping it hydrated and soft.

Honey is moisturizing, invigorating, revitalizing, softening, antioxidant, nourishing, and ideal for all skin types

Sodium Hydroxide

Sodium hydroxide is sometimes called caustic soda or lye. It is a common ingrediet in cleaners and soaps. At room temperature, sodium hydroxide is a white, odorless solid. Liquid sodium hydroxide is colorless and has no odor.

In soap, it's combined with oil in a process called saponification. Essentially, soap is a mixture of base oils, a diluted lye solution, and herbal additives.

During this process, the sodium hydroxide breaks apart fat molecules, leaving behind glycerin, and converts from an alkali into a soap. The soap is then cured for 4–6 weeks, during which time the sodium hydroxide dissolves into the soap as the soap bars lose water weight. The final product DOES NOT contain any sodium hydroxide.

Cocoa Butter

Jojoba Oil

Many oils and butters can be used in soap making, including saturated fats, unsaturated fats, and liquid oils. I like to use Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Castor Oil for most of my recipes. Shea Butter and Cocoa Butter are the butters that I use the most. These oils and butters create a nourishing and moisturizing bar of soap. Using these ingredients helps our skin retain moisture, which makes it soft and smooth.

These oils and butters are loaded with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents, which help keep your skin supple.

When choosing my oils and butters, I strive to use ones that are organic, unrefined and cold pressed and virgin. I want to be sure I am providing you with the highest quality ingredients that your skin deserves.
